Dear STL Supporters
We'd like the take the opportunity first to thank you for all the support you've shown our organization since we started back in 2009. We've changed and grown over the years, our original mission was specifically to help Stephanie Little and after her passing, we changed our mission to focus on education and helping others in similar situations. More recently in 2011, we refocused again to concentrate on prevention through early detection. We partnered with Planned Parenthood to create a fund called "The Stephanie Little Fund" to pay for both annual checkups and colposcopies since cervical cancer is highly treatable when detected early. We feel that this fund is the best way to honor the memory of Stephanie and serve the needs of the community. This has also led us to another difficult decision as a board. We are committed to the mission of STL; however, having the formal organizational structure of a charity has become counterproductive to that mission. In order to run a charity, there are registration, insurance, and other legal requirements, all of which have associated costs which don't allow us to maximize the amount of funds that go to the mission. With the establishment of the previously mentioned fund through Planned Parenthood, STL has become a conduit for your donations and as a result, we don't feel is fiscally responsible to maintain the formal organization any longer when donations can be made directly to the fund at Planned Parenthood. What changes will you see as a result? Really, not much. We are no longer a registered charity, but you'll still see us fundraising. Instead of making a donation to STL, we'll be asking you to make a donation to the fund we've established at Planned Parenthood. Anyone is welcome to contact any Big Bend Planned Parenthood and make a contribution directly or we would be more than happy to handle getting a donation to our contact locally. All checks will need to be made to Planned Parenthood going forward as we are no longer a registered charity. We hope to count on your continued support in this new format confident that we've made these changes only in the interest of being the best possible custodians of your donations and to advance our mission as efficiently as possible.
